Tom Karpowitz

Since 1989, Tom Karpowitz has held a variety of positions with Sun Microsystems. In his current role as Senior Staff Engineer in the Global Communities Technical Office, Tom’s responsibilities include the research and analysis of PC products and services in general and Microsoft's products in particular. His areas of expertise include system internals, PC interoperability, and systems and network design.

Tom is a 2005 team recipient of Sun’s Chairman’s Award for Innovation.

Prior to joining Sun, Tom worked as a software developer and systems designer for a number of high-technology startup companies in fields as diverse as 3D medical imaging, power supply testing, and automated fingerprint identification.

Tom earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. His interests include computer games, Chinese martial arts, soccer, basketball, homebrewing, woodworking, science fiction, and horse riding.
