First HOSC (2005) succesfull

In total some 450 people regsitered for the 2005 edition of the Holland Open Software Conference. The first feedback we received from our audience is very positive. The Foundation (Holland Open) for that reason decided that there will be a HOSC 2006! See you next year!

Statement Włodzimierz Marciński

Statement of Mr. Włodzimierz Marciński, Deputy Minister for Scientific Research and Information Society Technologies of the Republic of Poland concerning the draft directive of the European Parliament and the Council on the patentability of computer-implemented inventions. Mr. Marciński fully supports the idea of organising the Holland Open Software Conference hosting an open discussion of the consequences of the directive (on the patenability of computer implemented inventions) when it is adopted in the current shape unfavourable to the development of ICT in Europe.

Trivial patents

Plee Dutch professors in computers science to put the software directive of he EU on hold. More research is required before next steps should be taken. Trivial patents must be ruled out. Read the pdf here for more information. The paper was presented at the conference with Erik Josefsson (FFII), Arnoud Engelfriet (Philips), Johanna Boogerd (former member of European parliament).

Support the Open Source petition

Over 500 people signed the open source petition. The complete list was offred to member of Dutch parliament on September 13 (2005). Representatives from many political parties were present when Wouter Tebbens held a speech just before offering the petetion. http://opensource.petities.nl
